In the spirit of the upcoming Inauguration, here’s something cool. Nancy Judd is showing a collection of clothing made out of trash at the Green Inaugural Ball in Washington DC.
Ms. Judd has been creating amazing clothing out of garbage for about 10 years, despite having no fashion training. She imagines her pieces (which take hundreds of hours to make) as statements, rather than everyday wear, and looked up Obama’s measurements in order to make him a suit out of campaign doorhangers from his campaign. (Note: he will not be wearing it when he’s sworn in).
If you don’t believe that Nancy’s garbage creations could possibly be beautiful, check out this slideshow of her work here.
Wow, what an amazing woman. Maybe it will open up a few more eyes as to what we are doing to our planet….
and on a lighter note… maybe a slightly unhealthy Obama obsession? He will be an amazing President as we all know, but three pieces dedicated to him already? hmmmm…
I hear ya… Like everyone else, I guess her expectations are sky high.
Perhaps it did help her get noticed, though. After 10 years of spending hundreds of hours making things from garbage, it’s about time. I have nowhere near that kind of patience… I’ve tried sewing leather: I can’t imagine how hard some of her materials are to work with!
